Saving Eve

This little old lady arrived at animal control through the front door as a supposed stray. Her mats were hard like rocks, our groomer called them cast mats. She was covered in fecal material, at least 2 inches up her feet and legs so we assume she was living in a crate full of feces and urine. We don’t know how she survived. Her face was so matted her eyes were initially sealed shut. The real horror is realizing how long it took for her to get like this, she has been living a torturous existence. I am absolutely sick. Bert and I spent three hours working on her thanks to Kelly Fant who arrived at 7 am with clippers. April Hutcherson came to our rescue and finished her legs and feet when her work day ended. It took us about 4 1/2 hours total. She has a very large mass below her rectum that is extremely hard, she has mammary tumors and quite a few other little growths here and there. Her mouth is incredibly rotten. I imagine all of her teeth will come out when she has her dental. I am so disheartened today. I just really keep thinking things for the animals will get better and I meet a little lost soul like Eve, how can anyone allow this to happen. These are the things that break us. I am so glad she came my way. I am completely devoted to getting her healthy, even if it’s just so that she can die in peace somewhere knowing she was loved. I will depend on all of you to support this mission.
